Could Chronicles: Medieval be the next game for Bannerlord fans?

I played Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord a lot, and honestly, I was almost addicted to it for a while. The medieval setting, huge battles, building an army, taking castles, and creating your own story kept me hooked for countless hours.

Lately, I’ve been seeing Chronicles: Medieval everywhere online—screenshots, videos, and news about the game keep popping up. At first glance, it gives me strong Bannerlord vibes, but it also looks like it might go deeper into RPG elements, atmosphere, and character interactions.

For anyone who’s been following the game closely, do you think Chronicles: Medieval could actually satisfy Bannerlord players? Could it become a real competitor when it comes to combat, open-world gameplay, AI, sieges, army management, and replayability?

As someone who loved Bannerlord, is this a game worth getting excited about, or should I keep my expectations low for now?

I’ve put hundreds of hours into Bannerlord, and honestly, Chronicles: Medieval is the first game in a long time that has made me think, “Okay, this might actually scratch that same itch.”

I haven’t played Chronicles yet because there is no public build available, so I’m not going to pretend I know exactly how the combat or AI feels. But based on the gameplay they have shown, the Bannerlord influence is pretty obvious.

You fight directly with your character, but you can also pull the camera back, slow things down and command separate groups of soldiers. That part looks really cool because one of my favorite things about Bannerlord was being in the middle of the battle while still trying to control my army.

The battles also look more tactical. Infantry, archers and cavalry seem to have clear roles instead of everyone just running into one massive blob. If the formations and AI actually work properly, it could be better than Bannerlord in that area.

The world is another reason I’m interested. Chronicles is using a more historically grounded version of medieval Europe, while Bannerlord takes place in a fictional setting. Lords are also supposed to have their own land, income, titles, relationships and ambitions. That could make politics and diplomacy feel more personal instead of kingdoms randomly declaring war every five minutes.

Still, I would keep my expectations under control.

Bannerlord also looked like the perfect medieval sandbox before release, but longtime players know where it struggles: weak diplomacy, repetitive quests, strange campaign AI, messy sieges and a late game that becomes a grind.

Chronicles can show massive battles and beautiful castles in trailers, but the real test will be what happens after 50 or 100 hours.

Will the AI make smart decisions?

Will sieges actually work?

Will diplomacy matter?

Will different campaigns feel unique?

Will commanding a large army stay fun instead of becoming annoying?

Those things will decide whether it becomes a real Bannerlord competitor.

So yeah, as a Bannerlord player, I’m definitely excited about it. I already have it on my wishlist, and I think it has serious potential.

But I’m not calling it the “Bannerlord killer” until real players get their hands on the Early Access version. Right now, it looks promising as hell, but we still need to see whether the actual game can deliver everything the trailers are selling.
