R.E.P.O. voice chat sees my mic but nobody can hear me

R.E.P.O. sees the microphone in Windows, but voice chat either stays silent or uses the wrong device. The mic works in other apps.
What should be checked inside the game and Windows before touching drivers? This needs a fix that covers default communications devices, privacy permission, push-to-talk, and microphone devices, host connection, Unity crashes, and mod conflicts.

Do the device check in this order:
- In Windows Sound, set the real headset mic as both Default Input and Default Communications Device.
- In Privacy & security → Microphone, allow desktop apps to use the mic.
- Close virtual audio tools and unplug unused webcams or controllers with microphones.
- In R.E.P.O., select the device explicitly instead of leaving it on “Default,” then test open mic and push-to-talk separately.
- Disable exclusive mode for the mic in its Advanced properties if another app keeps taking control.
- Restart the game after changing the Windows default; many games read the device only at launch.
Also check microphone devices, host connection, Unity crashes, and mod conflicts. Do not reinstall audio drivers until the mic fails in Windows Voice Recorder too.
