Does Black Flag Resynced include the original's multiplayer mode, or is it single-player only?
The original AC4 Black Flag (2013) shipped with a full multiplayer suite — Wolfpack co-op and the competitive modes like Wanted and Manhunt. I sank a stupid amount of hours into Wolfpack back in the day.
Resynced launches July 9 and Ubisoft's marketing only ever mentions the solo campaign ("the iconic solo pirate adventure returns"). I've gone through the FAQ and the "everything you need to know" post — new officers, Blackbeard story arcs, photo mode, pets — but not a single word about multiplayer.
Has Ubisoft explicitly confirmed multiplayer is cut, or just stayed silent? Not pre-ordering until I know whether Wolfpack survived the remake.

Yes — it's officially confirmed: Black Flag Resynced is single-player only. Multiplayer is completely cut.
This isn't Ubisoft staying silent; they've addressed it directly. The official Black Flag Resynced FAQ on Ubisoft's site explicitly states the remake does not include a multiplayer mode, with the team fully focused on delivering the best possible solo experience. The cut was also confirmed during the Worldwide Reveal Showcase on April 23, so you can make your pre-order decision with full information.
What exactly got cut
Everything multiplayer-related from the 2013 original is gone:
Wolfpack co-op — the 2–4 player PvE mode is not returning in any form
Competitive modes like Manhunt and Artifact Assault will not return, and sailing the Jackdaw will be strictly a solo experience — that includes Wanted and Deathmatch as well
Freedom Cry DLC is also excluded; since it became a standalone title in 2013, it remains available as its own separate product
Why Ubisoft cut it
Resynced is a full remake rebuilt by Ubisoft Singapore with zero code reused from the 2013 original. Rebuilding the Animus multiplayer suite from scratch — matchmaking, dedicated servers, anti-cheat, ongoing live support — would have been a second game's worth of work for modes that, realistically, had a small active player base even back in the day. Ubisoft's stated position is that removing multiplayer lets the team put all resources into the campaign.
What you get instead
To offset the cuts, the remake adds brand-new story missions with fresh dialogue from Edward's original voice actor Matt Ryan, plus three recruitable officers — Lucy Baldwin, The Padre, and Dead Man Smith — each with their own questlines and Jackdaw perks, alongside new Blackbeard and Stede Bonnet storylines, photo mode, pets, and new shanties.
If you still want to play Wolfpack in 2026
The original AC4: Black Flag multiplayer servers are your only option. Availability varies by platform, and matchmaking populations are thin — Discord LFG communities are essentially required to fill a Wolfpack lobby these days. If Wolfpack was your main draw, that's the deciding factor: Resynced won't replace it, at launch or later. Ubisoft has given no indication multiplayer will be patched in post-launch.
TL;DR: Officially confirmed single-player only. Wolfpack, Wanted, Manhunt — all cut, no post-launch plans announced. The remake trades multiplayer for expanded solo content.
